Inaugural Tallahassee Startup Round a Big Success
Tallahassee, FLA. – The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship sponsored the inaugural Tallahassee Startup Round on Thursday, April 14. More than 70 highly enthusiastic entrepreneurs, students, educators and investors gathered at the Vintage Bistro & Bar to share ideas about new business ventures.
“When we decided to hold an event like this one in Tallahassee, we set a simple goal: to bring together entrepreneurs and inventors from across Tallahassee, including student entrepreneurs and inventors on campus, who bounce ideas off each other and off the mentors and investors interested in their development,” said John Chason of Metrix Ventures and co-founder of Tallahassee Startup Round. “The inaugural event exceeded even our most ambitious expectations.”
Tallahassee Startup Round aims to bring students interested in entrepreneurship, local inventors and entrepreneurs, mentors and investors together for an informal networking session that fosters collaboration. Co-founders John Chason of Metrix Ventures, Lester Hutt of BevShots and Adam Kaye of Silicon Tally modeled Tallahassee Startup Round after similar formats implemented by other universities in an effort to bring together all facets of entrepreneurship in a relaxed atmosphere to foster creativity, discussion and debate.

Among the participants at the inaugural event were Florida State University entrepreneurship majors Kelli Lampkin and Jonathan Hayes.
Thinking back to her childhood and the effects of an active imagination on sleep motivated Kelli Lampkin to launch Monsters-B-Gone, a bedtime product line designed to empower children to overcome their fears of the dark and make bedtime a more enjoyable experience — for the child and the parents. Its products include a spray repellant lightly scented with soothing lavender, a Courage Formula to drink before bedtime that includes Chamomile (a medicinal herb known for its calming effect on the body) and bedtime accessories like pajamas, pillow cases, blankets, nightlights and flashlights.
Jonathan Hayes developed his idea for Web Traffic Consultants as he began to understand the marketing challenges that small business owners and young startups face when competing with larger companies with deeper financial pockets. He recognized that small businesses and startups rarely possess the technical savvy (or the financial capital) required to market and grow their business. His goal with Web Traffic Consultants was to level the playing field for these companies.
