The College of Business at Florida State University seeks to hire a Managing Director for The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship. The Jim Moran Institute (JMI) was established in 1995 through generous donations from automotive industry legend Jim Moran, his wife Jan, and JM Family Enterprises, Inc. that were supplemented with a major grant from the State of Florida to create a fully funded endowment. Its mission is to cultivate, train and inspire entrepreneurial leaders in the community through education, research and applied training, consulting and mentorship, and public recognition. To-date, more than 500 students have earned a degree in entrepreneurship, more than 50 student- and/or faculty-founded businesses have been launched, and more than 4,000 businesses in Tallahassee and across Florida have benefited through an extensive set of high value development and outreach programs.

The Jim Moran Institute faculty are nationally acclaimed, having published more than one hundred and twenty articles in top management and entrepreneurship journals that address venture performance and growth, initial public offerings (IPOs) and financing for small businesses, entrepreneurial learning and cognition, innovation in entrepreneurial firms and franchising as an entrepreneurial strategy. Considered among the top schools in entrepreneurship, its programs have been recognized by leading organizations such as the Global Consortium for Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC), the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), and others.

The Managing Director position is responsible for day-to-day management of all major entrepreneurial outreach, student program enablement, and public recognition programs supported by JMI, including The InNOLEvation Challenge, The InNOLEvation Accelerator, the Advice Straight Up: Expert Speaker Series, The Jim Moran Institute Annual National Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Venture Startup, The Jim Moran Institute Annual Minority Business Conference for Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners, The Jim Moran Institute Executive Roundtables and Development Workshops, and others.

This position manages all personnel, financial, marketing, and publicity functions for JMI; creates visibility for JMI and its entrepreneurship programs at the local, state, and national level; and acts as a liaison for JMI in matters regarding entrepreneurial outreach with colleges and departments across Florida State University, in Tallahassee and across the state of Florida with local and state Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development organizations, nationally with other university-based entrepreneurship centers and entrepreneurship programs, and more. The position provides support to JMI Executive Director and its Advisory Board, including strategic planning activities and entrepreneurship fundraising efforts with corporations, private and public foundations, individual donors, and government agencies.

The Managing Director will possess a record of professional achievement and proven abilities to manage and market a world-class program that is competitive on a local, state, and national level. The individual will have strong organizational and administrative capabilities and demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Practical experience in staff management, budgeting, and in developing, launching, and managing startup businesses is preferred. A Master’s degree and 7 to 10 years of professional experience are desired.

The Florida State University College of Business was founded in 1950. Although one of the youngest business schools in the nation, it is one of the ten largest in the U.S. with over 6,000 students. The College has 114 full-time faculty, including 38 named professorships and 11 endowed chair positions, and offers ten Baccalaureate, four Masters, and eight Doctoral degree programs. The College of Business’s undergraduate programs were ranked 29th and 30th among public institutions in the Nation by U.S. News & World Report and BusinessWeek, respectively.

Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, Florida. Tallahassee is also home to the state capital and Florida A&M University. Rich in cultural diversity, Tallahassee boasts more than 31 community established performing arts groups and, with two universities, it is difficult to find a day without a sporting event. It also has many undisturbed natural environment and recreational resources, including the popular 16-mile Tallahassee/St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail.
