Robert W. Barron joins The Jim Moran Institute Advisory Board
Tallahassee, FLA. – The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship and The Florida State University College of Business are pleased to welcome Robert W. Barron to The Jim Moran Institute Advisory Board.
Robert Barron is a shareholder and practicing attorney in the Fort Lauderdale office of Berger Singerman, a Florida-based business law firm with offices in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and in the state capital of Tallahassee. Barron’s corporate transactional experience includes venture capital investments and investment partnerships; formation and capitalization of start-up companies (whether corporations, limited partnerships or limited liability companies), including follow-up investment transactions; asset -based corporate financing for businesses; structuring and negotiation of shareholder agreements, limited partnership agreements and LLC operating agreements; and mergers, acquisitions and dispositions of corporate businesses (including portfolio companies and subsidiaries).
Barron has been named to a number of impressive lists, including “The Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine (2006-2008 and 2010), “Florida Super Lawyers” by Law & Politics Magazine (2007-2010), and “Top Real Estate Lawyer” by Real Estate Florida (2008). In addition, the South Florida Legal Guide has named him one of the top lawyers in South Florida in the areas of commercial real estate and corporate transactions for five consecutive years.
Barron has an equally-impressive record of service in the South Florida business community, having served as chairman of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheridan Family Ministries, Inc., a local charity that serves the needs of single mothers and troubled children.
The advisory board helps The Jim Moran Institute achieve its mission to “cultivate, train and inspire entrepreneurial leaders in the community” as a way of fostering entrepreneurship and economic development across the State of Florida. Board members meet regularly with The Jim Moran Institute faculty and staff, actively shaping the mission and helping faculty and staff develop and execute its programs.

The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship was established in 1995 through generous donations from automotive industry legend Jim Moran, his wife Jan, and JM Family Enterprises, Inc and was supplemented with a major grant from the State of Florida to create a fully funded endowment. Its mission is to cultivate, train and inspire entrepreneurial leaders in the community through world-class education, leading-edge research and applied training, intensive consulting assistance and mentorship to entrepreneurs and business owners at no charge, and public recognition. The staff of entrepreneurship professionals, academic scholars, and staff foster the entrepreneurial spirit by helping to organize, expand and promote the knowledge and practice of entrepreneurship in such a way as to facilitate new business and to further the goals of established businesses. The Jim Moran Institute’s faculty and staff provide students, faculty, aspiring entrepreneurs, and business owners the tools and expertise necessary to develop strategies that establish and sustain advantages for businesses in today’s competitive marketplace and to creatively pursue new opportunities and innovations involving the startup of new business ventures. Through degree and certificate programs in entrepreneurship, outreach programs that reach across Florida and throughout the world, and complementary activities such as half-day workshops and a speaker series, The Jim Moran Institute currently serves more than 1,000 undergraduates and about 200 businesses each year.
About College of Business at Florida State University:
Founded in 1950, the College of Business is one of the nation’s youngest business schools, yet it has become one of the 10 largest in the nation. With more than 5,700 students, the College boasts a distinguished full-time faculty of 116, including one Francis Eppes professor, eight eminent scholars, three university-named professors, 29 endowed professors and six fellows. The College offers eight undergraduate degrees (BS) with ten majors, and the graduate program offers six master’s degree programs (MBA, MSF, MSM, MS in MIS, MSM in RMI and MAcc) and seven majors at the doctoral level (PhD). These academic majors are available through the College’s five departments, which include Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and Risk Management/Insurance, Real Estate & Legal Studies. The College also has one independent, industry-specific program, the Dedman School of Hospitality, which offers one undergraduate degree with two majors. The Dedman School of Hospitality has eight distinguished full-time faculty, which include four endowed professors. The College is also home to eleven research centers and institutes.
