The Jim Moran Institute's First Advice Straight Up Speaker Series Luncheon a Huge Success

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship and The Florida State University College of Business held the first luncheon in the Advice Straight Up Speaker Series for 2011-2012. The event featured Dana Williams, director of marketing and communications for Southwest Airlines. More than 125 people attended the inaugural event at FSU's Turnbull Conference Center to hear Dana provide a candid account of Southwest Airlines’ efforts to build brand awareness. She also offered her view on steps that companies should take to build their identity in the marketplace from the "inside out."

The Jim Moran Institute created the Advice Straight Up speaker series to provide our region’s savviest business leaders and entrepreneurs access to nationally recognized speakers who can share their experiences in launching new ventures and building innovative businesses. The 2011-2012 speaker series features four luncheon presentations with high profile speakers like Dana. The accomplished panel of speakers combines genuine passion for entrepreneurship with practical, valuable insight for surviving and thriving in today’s aggressive business marketplace.

The next luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 20, and will feature renowned social media expert and New York Times best-selling author Chris Brogan. Chris Brogan has more than 11 years of experience using social media and both web and mobile technologies to build digital relationships for businesses, organizations and individuals. He consults and speaks professionally with Fortune 100 and 500 companies like PepsiCo, General Motors, Microsoft, and others on the future of business communications and social software technologies. Chris is also a New York Times bestselling co-author of Trust Agents, and a featured monthly columnist at Entrepreneur Magazine. His blog, chrisbrogan.com, is in the Top 5 of the Advertising Age’s Power150.

The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship was established in 1995 through generous donations from automotive industry legend Jim Moran, his wife Jan, and JM Family Enterprises, Inc. About College of Business at Florida State University:
Founded in 1950, the College of Business is one of the nation’s youngest business schools, yet it has become one of the 10 largest in the nation. With more than 5,700 students, the College boasts a distinguished full-time faculty of 116, including one Francis Eppes professor, eight eminent scholars, three university-named professors, 29 endowed professors and six fellows. The College offers eight undergraduate degrees (BS) with ten majors, and the graduate program offers six master’s degree programs (MBA, MSF, MSM, MS in MIS, MSM in RMI and MAcc) and seven majors at the doctoral level (PhD). These academic majors are available through the College’s five departments, which include Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and Risk Management/Insurance, Real Estate & Legal Studies.
